It was a winning weekend for Woodhall Spa CC as the 2ndXI and Wanderers 1stXI won important league fxitures while the Wanderers 2ndXI claimed victory in the Lincoln and District League Premier Trophy Final via a 62 run victory over Rustons.
Held at Sleaford CC, captain Pete Epton won toss and elected to bat first in the final and he was somehwat ruing his decision when his side had slumped to 21-5 inside the first nine overs..the top five batsmen all back in the pavilion. However, the side was to lose just one more wicket on their way to posting 212-6. Batting at number seven Jack Luffman (125no) first put on 77 with 12-year-old Ollie Caswell (18) and then an unbeaten 114 with 14-year-old Alfie Lindsey (32 not out). The two youngsters showing great skill and application in supporting their more senior partner.
In truth, Rustons never really threatened the target as the Spa's young bowling attack delivered thier skills well. Kieran Richardson (2-30) and Luke Ware (2-24) were the pick and were well backed up by some excellent fielding and agood display of wicket-keeping form vice-captain George Lindsey.
At home, the Wanderers 1stXI won by 16 runs against a strong Hartsholme outfit. Batting first Spa posted 226-4, an innings largely based around an unbeaten 109 not out from Malinga Bandara. He was well supported by fellow opener Matthew Sargeant (43) and Etienne Botha (46).
The visitors were to finish their 40 overs on 210-6. Sargeant returned to bowling claiming three wickets with Botha (two) and Tom Dixon (one) accounting for the others. This win keeps the side second in the table just one point behind leaders Sleaford.
On Saturday the 2ndXI won by 55 runs at Spalding. Batting first Spa posted 188-9 with Chris Anderson top scoring with 43. In reply the home side were bowled out for 133. Captain Paul Timby taking 6-28.
