Wanderers Seconds Book Place In Cup Final

The Wanderers 2ndXI booked its place in the Divsion 3 League Cup Final with a 77-run victory over Hykeham. Needing to win and restrict their visitors to just five bonus points, Pete Epton’s men were asked to bat first under cloudy skies and at 23-2 were in a spot of bother. However, an undefeated partnership of 169 between 14-year-old Henry Wilson and Jack Luffman then followed. Indeed, Wilson carried on his fine form this season and finally went past that magical half-century mark for the first time in senior cricket – a marvellous achievment. Spa ended up posting 185-2 with Wilson unbeaten on 55 and Luffman 106 not out.

In reply, the visitors’ innings never really got going once John Temperton had ripped through the top order to claim 3-22. He was well supported by fellow opening bowler Jackson Draper who was unlucky not to claim a wicket in his opening spell. The remaining seven wickets were shared between Tom Caswell (2-12) and spinners Jamie Jenkins (2-38) and Ollie Caswell (3-11) to bowl Hykeham out for 108. The final will take place in August.

The Wanderers 1st XI lost at Boston in its Lincoln and District Premier Divsion encounter. Bowling first Spa dismissed their hosts for 166 with Etienne Botha (3-23) and Lewis Holmes (2-19) the pick of the bowling attack. In reply, the Spa innings never really got going with only skipper Paul Timby (31) and Botha (28) the only significant scores as the side was dismissed for just 97.
