Under-15s Crowned County Champions

The under-15 team were last night crowned County Champions in a thrilling final at Jubilee Park against an equally strong Cleethorpes side.

Batting first on a superb batting track and lightening quick outfield, the home side posted a very challenging 146. The match got off to a significant start with opener Tom Caswell blasting the ball to the cover boundary, this was a sign of things to come as the batting from both sides was of the highest order, as was both the fielding and bowling.

Caswell scored a delightful 22 and there were useful contributions from Ollie Haskins, captain Alfie Lindsey and Alex Hodson however the main stay of the innings was a retired 50 from Henry Wilson who played some sublime shots all around the wicket.

While a very good score, the Spa bowlers knew they had to perform to defend it and so they did with all they had as the visitors' openers came out with a positive intent and put on 70 for the first wicket in quick time. Spa's bowlers hadn't bowled badly but the batsmen had found the surface to their liking and captain Lindsey switched his bowlers around to find that first wicket which he did in the shape of under-13 player Dewi Bourke. In tandem with Luke Ware this pair stemmed the run flow and in the process Bourke took a further two wickets. A fine run out executed by Wilson and wicket-kepper William Wright and then two excellent tight overs form Lindsey on his return meant that Cleethorpes needed 16 off the final over. Wilson held his nerve and just six were scored and the lads were able to celebrate and their parents breath again as the cup was claimed!

Congratulations to the team, captain Alfie Lindsey and coach Matthew Haslam.
