Three Out of Three
It was a weekend of wins for Woodhall Spa CC with all three senior sides that played being victorious.
The 1st XI climbed back to joint fourth in the ECB Premier League table with an 112 run victory at Louth. After being asked to bat on a tricky surface and contending with a lengthy rain delay Spa posted an excellent 211-8 from the 50 overs. Jonny Cheer was the main stay of the innings with 80 but useful contributions were made throughout the order with particular lively ones from 1st XI debutant Chris Anderson, Jack Hughes and Nick Bishop. In reply the home side were put under early pressure at were reduced to 5-4 thanks to some accurate and hostile bowling from Ben O’Brien and Connor Parsons. Louth’s middle order put up more of a resistance but when another debutant Alex King removed West and Malinga Bandara accounted for a further two it was left to Parsons to claim his third wicket and wrap up the home side’s innings for just 99. At home the 2nd XI returned to winning ways with a 42 run victory of a struggling Welby. In a reduced overs game of 30 per side, Spa posted 139-8 thanks in the main to a half century from Ben McCarrick. In reply Welby were bowled out for 99 with veteran off-spinner Matthew Haslam taking seven vistors’ wickets. For full scorecard click here.
On Sunday the Wanderers 1stXI’s fixture at Cherry Willingham was cancelled so it was left to the 2ndXI to put on a show at home versus Hougham and Marston. The visitors batted first and were dismissed for just 101. Wickets were sahred around amongst the young Spa bolwing attack of Jackson Draper, Ryan Hughes, Jamie Jenkins and Henry Wilson. In reply the hoem side passed the winning line for the loss of just three wickets with O’Brien top scoring with 54 but 13-year-old Wilson carried his bat for a senior career best score fo 29 not out.
