Major refurbishment works are almost complete at Woodhall Spa Cricket Club's Pavilion.
Work began in earnest by the main contractor, Peter Jackson Cabinet Makers Ltd of Horncastle in early September.
The pavilion which was opened in 1971 has served the club well, but lacked modern facilities. Project manager, Martin Wright, successfully gained the award of a £50,000 grant from WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd), to refurbish the community facilities at the pavilion.
Funds were also gained from the England & Wales Cricket Trust, and by the club working hard for several months to make a major input into the modernisation.
Martin said, "The main aim of this project was to provide modern and safe facilities, for all ages and abilities in order to use the pavilion throughout the year. The club wish to promote disability sport from not only cricketers but other sports persons, and now they have some of the facilities, which are needed to host events. The pavilion however, can now be used by a wider range of community groups for meetings, events and gatherings in a warmer, safer, modern environment. The modern facilities now complement the award winning wicket and outfield".
The pavilion now has two wheelchair access ramps, a raised terrace at floor level, a new heating system, new fire escape facilities, new (including wheelchair friendly) lavatories, a re-fitted kitchen and bar, double glazing, as well as refurbished shower and changing rooms. The main long room now has WI-FI, and is designed to host meetings, as well as events for the community, throughout the year.
The club has been delighted in the way in which Peter Jackson has co-ordinated the many trades needed to complete the refurbishment in such a short time.
WREN is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, conservation and heritage projects from funds donated by waste and resource management company FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund.
Cheryl Raynor, WREN’s grant manager for Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, says: “We are delighted to be supporting the Club and pleased that our funding has provided such a fantastic facility for Woodhall Spa. WREN is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that make a difference to local communities and we’re really looking forward to seeing the local community become involved and try out the refurbished facilities .”
The club are holding an open morning on Saturday, 12th December from 10am until 12 noon, for villagers, club members and local groups to see the new facilities and thank them for their support. Refreshments will be available, and all are welcome.
The club will be having an official opening in the Spring of 2016. Watch this space!
