Great Weekend Of Results

Three wins and a tie completed a good set of results for the Spa’s senior sides at the weekend.

A Luke Smith inspired 1st XI returned to winning ways with an emphatic six wicket win over much fancied Lindum at Jubilee Park. Having lost the toss, the hoem side blew away their visitors for just 108. Smith ripped through the top order claiming 5-21 with Malinga Bandara claiming 3-16 and Etienne Botha 2-24. The home side lost just four wickets in the run chase with skipper Jack Luffman (31) and Bandara (33 not out) the main contributors.

Away in Lindum hill, the 2nd XI secured an equally impressive seven wicket win. Bowling first they too ripped out thir opponents for 117. The returning Connor Parsons bowled quickly to claim 4-29 while Lewis Holmes, Alex King and Jack Cooke each claimed two wickets apiece. In reply, it took Spa just 19 overs to cross the finishing line with Matt Sargeant top scoring with 59.

On Sunday, the Wanderers 1st XI tied its match away at Hartsholme with both sides finishing on 194. Batting first Spa’s innings was based around Botha (56) and Jack TImby (58) with the rest of the batting line-up all getting starts. In reply, the home side looked to be cruising to victory but the introduction of Paul Timby (3-31) and the re-introduction of Botha stemmed the run flow and a dot ball from Timby’s final delivery sealed an entertaining tie.

At home, Pete Epton’s Wanderers 2nd XI ran out comfortable winners against Bracebridge Heath. Batting first Spa reached 202 all out with the skipper top scoring with 53. Useful contributions were also made by openers Adam Barker (37) and George Lindsey (21). In reply, the visitors were bowled out for 95. Kieranb Richardson claimed three wickets; Alfie Lindsey two; Ollie Caswell two and William Wright claimed his first senior wicket with his left arm spin thanks to a ‘worldie’ of a catch by Tom Caswell in the covers.
