Four Out Of Five Wins Not A Bad Weekend For Spa

Both the Saturday teams had a great weekend winning both their games against Nettleham 1st in the ECB League & Skegness 1sts in the SLB Championship. The 1st scored 256-7 with Jamie Epton scoring a great 62 when he opened with his maiden half century for his new club and Matt Carter adding 54 off 35 balls. In reply Nettleham could only reach 125-8 off 50 overs again with Matt taking the plaudits with 3 wickets for only 22 runs. A well deserved 18 points leaving the 1sts to a great start to the season.

The seconds won the toss and put Skegness into bat which proved to be the winning formula with young Freddie Bailey opening the bowling and kept the openers pinned down aided by Dewi Bourke. Freddie 1 wicket off 6 overs only going for 12 runs & Dewi 3 wickets off 8 overs for 11. Star of the bowling attack was Tom White taking 5 wickets for 12 runs off 8 overs. Onto the batting Woodhall chased this down in 23 overs with Sam Cherry scoring 33 runs reaching 73/4.

The Ladies team got their softball season under way with victories against Nettleham & Sleaford hosted at Nocton CC. In the 1st game they held Nettleham to a net score of 258/4 with Jade Galpin, Carys James and debutants Rosie Finney & Steph Goy getting 1 wicket each. Woodhall scored a net score of 299/7 with Jade scoring net 16, Charlie Windley net 12, Claire Garner getting net 10 and two more debuts to Lydia Walker getting net 16 and Neve Bagley net 10. In the 2nd match Sleaford scored Net 260/6, single wickets for Jade & Charlie. Sophie Lindsey getting 2 wickets same as Cerys Jeffreys. Woodhall went on to score net 282/6 with Jade & Charlie scoring 16 & 15 respectively giving Woodhall Ladies 6 points to start the season opener well.

The only loss of the weekend was to the gallant Woodhall Sunday 1st’s who were chasing a Bracebridge score of 223 all out with Ben Troops getting three wickets off his 10 overs. Woodhall fell short only getting 207/6 off there 40 overs Ben scoring 79 and Ethan Garner getting his top score of the season 44.
