Firsts Reach Another Final

The 1stXI reached yet another 20/20 final last night with a seven wicket victory over Lindum in the Stephen Bradford Memorial Trophy at Sleaford.

Having won the toss skipper Jack Luffman asked Lindum to bat first to which they posted 112-6 from their 18 overs thanks to some tight bowling and fielding from the Spa especially after their opponents had reached 60-0 from 10 overs. Ben O’Brien bulked his customary four tight overs and Malinga Bandara took four wickets, one via a good catch from Ricky Lovelace and the other three bowled in the final over of the innings. They were well supported by Paul Timby, Alex King, Connar Parsons and the ever-impressive Lewis Holmes.

In reply, openers O’Brien and Jonny Cheer got off to a flyer taking 16 from the very first over. The big hitting O’Brien continued his assault and was finally dismissed for a rapid 36 which included two huge maximums. Cheer soon followed but Bandara and Jack Hughes continued to quickly chase down the target with a combination of quick singles and big hits and the winning line was crossed with more than four overs to spare.

Spa now face a strong Bracebridge Heath side in the Final next week, 6pm start at Sleaford CC.
