Disappointing weekend for Club

It was a miserable Bank Holiday for Woodhall Spa due to both the weather and results.

On Saturday the 1stXI lost ground on new leaders Bracebridge Heath after suffering an 83 run defeat at home to Sleaford. Chasing Sleaford’s 215-8 the home side were dismissed for a disappointing 132. Only Etienne Botha (40) and Matt Sargeant (38) showing any sort of resilience at the crease. Earlier in the afternoon Botha had bowled well to claim four wickets while Malinga Bandara (three) and a Ricky Lovelace run out accounted for the remaining ones to fall.

The 1stXI’s hopes of getting back to winning ways and putting pressure back on Bracebridge were dashed by the weather on Monday. Despite every effort the umpires abandoned the matc between the top two without a ball being bowled so with just two matches remaining Spa trail BBH by 13 points.

The 2ndXI also lost out to their Sleaford counterparts on Saturday but showed fight with bat and ball in defeat. Chasing the home side’s 321, Spa managed to post 222-5 with Ross Dixon top scoring on 91, his first half-century for the Club.

On Sunday the Wanderers 2ndXI match at home to Sleaford was also abandoned after 24 overs. At this juncture the home side were 77-4 with 14-year-old Tom Caswell unbeaten on 40.
