Anderson Shines in the Sun
New signing Chris Anderson shone in Saturday’s 2ndXI victory at home to rivals Belton Park with a wonderful 116 to help his side post a formidable 257-6.
It was an even more remarkable performance considering, batting at four, he was at the crease at the end of the first over after Belton’s Sawyer had removed opener Rob Bee and number three Ben McCarrick within the first six balls of the match without a run on the board. So Anderson, together with 15-year-old Jack Timby, firstly rebuilt the innings and then gradually went through his gears in an entertaining partnership with 1stXI regualr Connor Parsons, who got some much needed match time following the first XI’s scheduled fixture at Market Rasen was suprisingly cancelled earlier in the day. Parsons hit a career best 85 not out batting at six while Anderson completed a stylish and well earned 100.
In reply, Belton were bowled out for 158 although the Spa bowlers were made to toil for their wickets but eventually three from Alex King and two apiece for Lewis Holmes and Kieran Richardson saw the home side to a super 99 run victory. For full scorecard click here.
As mentioned, the first XI’s trip to Market Rasen was cancelled following the overnight and early morning rain so its players were left frustrated at not even being given the opportunity to stay at the ground until the final 3pm cut-off time but instead showed their support for the 2nd XI.
